Untold Impact and Cost of Overhead Lines

Transmission lines cost a lot more than underground cables when direct impact and maintenance is included in the cost comparison.

The long term risks, impacts and maintenance costs of overhead transmission lines on our community, environment and people are significant.

The costs of overhead powerlines are perpetual and include 70m wide corridor access and maintenance costs; storm damage, bushfire impact, and extreme temperature exposure deterioration; social, visual and health impacts; wildlife, cattle, and natural biodiversity impacts;  ongoing fauna and flora management costs; disaster and emergency services costs; light aircraft acidents, work at heights installation risks, and aerial maintenance injuries and fatalities; extensive stakeholder communication and remediation costs; and private property visual impact Government compensation.

The total cost and impact of transmission lines far outweigh the cost of underground cabling.
